Oak Hill/Sashabaw Intersection To Soon Feature a Compact Roundabout
Those who travel Oakhill and Sashabaw roads will soon notice a change at the intersection. A new roundabout is in the works, as crews from the Road Commission for Oakland County (RCOC), in partnership with Brandon and Independence townships, will construct a compact roundabout at the intersection. The roundabout construction project will replace the current four-way stop on the Independence Township/Brandon Township border.
During the winter months, Road Commission for Oakland County is removing trees from the area. Come spring 2021, work to relocate utilities at the intersection will take place. Road construction is slated to begin next summer, with completion in the fall of 2021. Overall, the project will consist of reconstructing one-third mile of roadway with asphalt pavement. When complete, the reconstructed road will include new curbs and gutters, installation of ADA-compliant crosswalks, installation of storm sewers, drainage improvements, as well as intersection lighting.
A small section of land that is currently part of Independence Oaks County Park will have to be used in the project. However, the land will be replaced with additional parkland elsewhere. During the construction phase, the intersection will be closed to through traffic. Access to homes and businesses near the intersection will be maintained at all times.
